Information / Facts: The Cockapoo is a cross breed of the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel. These are very friendly, affectionate dogs that adapt well to nearly any situation. While they do require exercise, they do not need a huge area to run, so they make great apartment dogs. Like many Poodle cross breeds, there are Cockapoos in nearly every size and hair length.
Pros: The Cockapoo is extremely social and friendly. The Cockapoo is intelligent and loves to learn they often pick up tricks and follow directions well. They make good family dogs since they get along well with other dogs, cats and children. The Cockapoo is hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for people that have dog allergies. Additionally, these dogs shed very little.
Cons: While the Cockapoo does not shed much, they do require grooming. You will need to brush your dog often and keep the fur around his or her face trimmed to avoid mats and dinginess. These dogs are extremely social, so they may not be good for households where all members are gone much of the day. The Cockapoo will do best in a home where they can enjoy the company of others. Cockapoos do suffer some of the same joint problems that Cocker Spaniels do, meaning you may have to give special attention to avoid arthritis later in life.
